New to Latin Twist? Here's exactly what to wear, what to bring, and what happens at your first Salsa, Bachata or Kizomba class in Mumbai — no experience or partner needed.
So you've booked your first class — nice. Here's everything you need to know before you walk in, so the only thing you have to think about is having fun.
Do I need a partner?
No. Most people show up solo. We rotate partners throughout class so everyone gets to practice leading and following with different people — it's actually one of the best ways to learn faster. If you do want to bring a friend, that's welcome too, just make sure they register for the class as well.
What should I wear?
Comfortable clothes you can move freely in — nothing too restrictive. A few practical tips:
Avoid anything too loose around the feet (long, wide-leg pants can be tricky to move in)
Bring a small hand towel and a change of socks — you'll work up a sweat
Smart casual is perfect for our socials afterward, if you're staying on
What shoes do I need?
Clean, comfortable shoes with soles that won't mark the floor. Dance shoes are nice to have eventually, but they're not required for your first class — sneakers or any clean, comfortable footwear work fine to start.
What actually happens in class?
We start with the basics — footwork, timing, and simple patterns — broken down step by step. No prior experience or rhythm required; everyone starts exactly where you are. As the class progresses, we build on what you've learned and you'll get partner practice with rotation, so you're not stuck working with just one person the whole time.
Will I be the only beginner?
Almost certainly not. Beginner classes are full of first-timers — that's the whole point. Nobody's watching or judging; everyone in the room remembers being exactly where you are.
What should I bring?
Water bottle
Small towel
A pair of socks (useful for footwork drills)
An open mind and a willingness to laugh at yourself a little — that's half the fun
Arrival
Please arrive about 5 minutes early so you can settle in before class starts.
That's really it. Come as you are — Latin Twist has been welcoming first-timers in Mumbai since 2007, and every single regular dancer you'll meet started exactly the same way you're starting now.
